| What I Be This year our classroom theme is WHAT I BE: "It's okay to be just who you are and strive to be the best you can be". We are learning how to reflect on our choices and the impact they have on the environment around us. To introduce this theme we read the story What I Be by Michael Franti. The purpose of this activity was to encourage and become familiar with the theme. After reading the story, we wrote our own pages to the book. Our pages hang in the classroom to remind us daily to be the best we can be, and be happy with ourselves. They take place of classroom rules as they allow children to make everyday decisions based on our mantra (What I Be) rather than follow a list of dos and don'ts. This enables students to take ownership of their decisions and gives them the power to reflect on their own actions. |
